CNY
GONG HEI FATT CHOY everyone!!
i know i'm like 2 days late.. but oh well, only just managed to get down to blogging.
anyway had a great cny celebration in the form of the CNY ball on sat night! it was organised by the asian/jap/chinese societies.. and was held at the hilton grosvenor hotel.( this is not the hilton chain unfortunately)
anyway mary and i started getting ready at like 4, cos the reception was at 6 and dinner started at 630, so we messed about and got dressed, applied makeup, did our hair.. the works. then rachael and clement came over and we headed off together in a taxi.
lots of people were already there when we arrived, everyone was so nicely dressed! all the guys were like in tuxedos and tails and what nots, very nice indeed. hehe.. we had our 3 course meal ( which kinda sucked, should have just paid for the after party which started at 8pm and only 10 pounds, hence im not gonna elaborate on what i had, its not worth it) then more people came in bout 8ish, the ones who had only paid for the after party. then the fun begannn
we all gathered around the dance floor and we were told some performances were going to starting. so to start off, there was kung fu - performed by the edinburgh kungfu society, full of agmohs in orange suits. haha was quite funny, they did a pretty impressive kung fu thingy to the wong fei hong music. haha.. then we had belly dancing, tibetian dancing, tango dancing, pipa and gu zheng performances. all very impressive and enjoyable! after that 2 more rooms were opened up adjacent to the main function room, and in the main function room, there was a celidgh( scottish dancing with a celidgh band), super fun, i participated in 2 dances, one of em was like reallly fast, ahha got really hot and sweaty at the end, but it was great! hehee.. then at the other end of the 3 rooms was karaoke, where they had like a long long list of chinese songs to choose from.rachael and I sang qi li xiang together.. haha was so fun, though i couldnt read a few words, i just smoked my way through. haha..
then at the same time, raffle tickets were being sold ( lucky draw like that cept that you gotta buy the ticks la) i bout 3, but obviously didnt win anything, but the top prize was an ipod nano, WOW i know. haha.. and they had other prizes like sakae, food vouchers, shopping vouchers...etc. all very good. then they were also selling stalks of roses, where you could buy a rose for a girl of guy, and whoever had the most at the end of the night was crowed queen or king of roses. haha, obbviosuly having a BOYFRIEND there would help. oh well. i got ONE rose, haha from dear old clemmy who bought all of us girls one.. hehe..
yeah so the night went on like this ,the great thing about it was that you wouldnt get bored just doing one thing.. you could like walk around and stuff. then after all this, the disco dancing started which was good fun, had like a proper countdown at 12am to welcome in the new year! haha then we wished each other " happy dog" haha.
all in all, an entirely enyoable night , though my dress was threatenin to fall off MANY times... but all was well in the end. ill leave you now with photos. i apologise for the poor quality of them.. my cameras like broken.
